Blood Donation Event

This report covers the latest initiative of EPSF at FUE:

Title: Hepatitis C Awareness Campaign
Date & Time: May 6, 2015 from 1:30 to 4:00 pm
Number of Participants: 56 students


Event Details:
• On the above-mentioned date a “Hepatitis C Awareness Campaign” session was presented by Dr Amal Emad Eldin, FUE’s Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmaceutical Industries’ (PSPI) Microbiology Department.

• Dr Emad Eldin started the presentation by talking about the epidemic Hepatitis C virus, its types, and various manifestations. Dr Emad Eldin informed the audience of the 5 different types namely:” A, B, C, D, E” explaining that the most dangerous type is “Virus C” even though its symptoms resemble that of a cold, feeling fatigue, having joint pains; yet because symptoms are manifested only at a late stage, it is because of that that it is advised to have periodic blood tests.

The presentation also covered how Hepatitis C virus is contracted indicating that it happens through the blood (by using a contaminated syringe, dental instrument, razor blade, tattoo needle, etc.…)

• Ms Heba Mohamed, Head of Public Health Committee, then gave a talk covering the basic principles of the campaigning event also explaining the effective methods of promoting awareness and how questions should be handled.

• The presentation ended by a Q&A session that was handled by Ms Heba Mohamed.

• The event ended with Mr Tawfik Ahmed’s, President of EPSF, sincerely thanking the participants attending this event who are all committed to fighting this virus that has attacked some 8 million people.
