About

About
Pharmaceutical chemistry is the study of pharmaceuticals at the molecular level. The study of Pharmaceutical Chemistry emphasizes the chemical aspects of drug design, development, prodrug and correlation between physicochemical properties of drugs and their actions and molecular mechanism by which drugs act in the body. Molecular-level understanding of biological processes and mechanisms of drug action is the key to the development of new pharmaceuticals. Recent progress in the field has focused on structural activity relationships, combinatorial chemistry, and computer-aided drug design. Chemists continue to be at the forefront of drug design, synthesis, testing, and development.

The Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department ensures pharmacy students are skilled and competent in all topics covered including organic chemistry, analytical chemistry and as well as apply qualitative and quantitative aspects of spectroscopic, chromatographic analysis which are considered the most essential tools for the successful synthesis and determination of novel structure elucidation as well as assessments of their purity, in addition to essential subjects of medicinal chemistry, drug design, and development.
