The objective of this course is to provide students with the basic knowledge in pharmaceutical organic chemistry, which will serve as fundamentals for other courses offered during subsequent semesters. This course involves Electronic structure of atom, alkanes [nomenclature, synthesis and reactions (free radical reactions)], and cycloakanes. Alkenes, alkadienes and alkynes. Alkyl halides, Alcohols, ethers & epoxides (nomenclature, preparation and chemical reactions (SN1, SN2, E1, E2). In addition it covers Stereochemistry (Optical isomers, racemic modification and nomenclature of configurations).
