The Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) is a one-year program offered by the Faculty of Pharmacy at Future University in Egypt for PharmD and PharmD-Clinical Pharmacy students in their final year. The APPE aims to enhance students' clinical and pharmaceutical skills through practical training in diverse settings.
Objectives of the APPE Program
The primary objectives of the APPE program are to:
- Prepare pharmacists capable of excelling in the local, regional, and international labor markets as integral members of medical teams.
- Foster graduates' employability skills, including teamwork, professionalism, and leadership.
- Expand collaboration between academic institutions and practice sites.
- Equip pharmacists with the ability to practice ethically and according to governing values.
- Provide practice-ready graduates to various pharmaceutical and clinical institutions.
- Create job opportunities for graduates.
Program Structure and Duration
The APPE program consists of six rotational training rounds, each lasting six weeks, totaling 36 weeks (one academic year). Students must successfully complete 181 credit hours and 100 hours of summer training to be eligible for the APPE.

Internship Policies and Evaluation
Interns are evaluated on a Pass/Fail basis for each round, requiring a minimum of 60% according to supervisors' evaluations and an attendance rate of not less than 75%. Successful completion of all six training rounds is mandatory for graduation and receiving the Bachelor of Pharmacy - PharmD and PharmD-Clinical Pharmacy degrees. The internship year's result does not count towards the student's cGPA.
Role of the Training and Internship Committee
The Training and Internship Committee is responsible for setting program regulations, scheduling, updating the APPE manual, identifying supervising coordinators and preceptors, and ensuring the quality and effectiveness of the training rounds. The Director of Training and Internship Committee manages logistics, student training lists, results validation, and approvals for leaves or site replacements.
