Faculty of Pharmacy at Future University in Egypt Organizes an Educational Field Trip to the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries in Alexandria In line with its mission to combine academic knowledge with real-world application, the Faculty of Pharmacy at Future University in Egypt (FUE) organized an extensive educational field trip to the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries (NIOF) in Alexandria on Thursday, October 23rd, 2025, as part of the Marine Natural Products course offered to fourth-year students. Hands-On Learning and Scientific Exploration The trip provided pharmacy students with a valuable opportunity to explore Egypt’s diverse and rich marine ecosystems—an environment that holds immense potential as a source of bioactive compounds used in modern drug development. Students learned about various marine organisms, including algae, sponges, and corals, which are known to produce naturally occurring substances that can be developed into antibiotics, anti-inflammatory agents, and other therapeutic drugs. They were also introduced to the latest research methodologies used in the collection, classification, and biochemical analysis of marine species, gaining a better understanding of how marine biodiversity can inspire pharmaceutical innovation. Linking Theory with Research Practice Supervised by faculty members from the Department of Pharmacognosy and Medicinal Plants, the students engaged in interactive discussions with researchers at the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries, who shared insights into Egypt’s scientific initiatives in marine-based drug discovery and natural product research. This practical exposure allowed students to connect theoretical lessons with real-world applications, strengthening their appreciation for the importance of research, sustainability, and innovation in modern pharmacy education. Commitment to Academic and Research Excellence The field trip reflects Future University in Egypt’s commitment to fostering a culture of research-oriented learning and developing future pharmacists who combine scientific knowledge with creativity and social responsibility. Through such initiatives, the Faculty of Pharmacy aims to prepare graduates who are capable of contributing meaningfully to pharmaceutical research, drug innovation, and environmental preservation. With its advanced academic programs, expert faculty members, and growing network of local and international partnerships, the Faculty of Pharmacy at Future University in Egypt continues to play a leading role in shaping the next generation of pharmaceutical scientists and healthcare professionals.
