Faculty of Pharmacy at Future University in Egypt Announces Research Seminar on Computational Enzyme Design FUE Theatre Entrance Columns (File Photo) “Computational Enzyme Design: Engineering New-to-Nature Biocatalysts” Speaker: Dr. Wael Elaily, PhD Institute of Molecular Biosciences, University of Graz, Austria Institute of Biochemistry, Graz University of Technology, Austria Date: 24 August 2025 Time: 1:00 PM Venue: Faculty of Pharmacy, Future University in Egypt About the Seminar The field of enzyme engineering is witnessing a remarkable transformation through computational de novo protein design — an innovative approach that enables scientists to design enzymes entirely from scratch, unrestricted by natural evolutionary pathways. Recognized by the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, this advanced methodology enables the development of enzymes with unprecedented specificity, stability, and functionality, even when targeting non-natural substrates. During the seminar, Dr. Wael Elaily will present his latest research on integrating physics-based simulations with deep learning techniques to create tailored enzyme platforms. These platforms exhibit enhanced properties such as substrate specificity, solvent tolerance, and resistance to mutation. Such advancements represent a breakthrough for white biotechnology and have far-reaching implications across pharmaceutical development, industrial biocatalysis, and environmental sustainability. Attendance is highly recommended for: Students and researchers in pharmaceutical sciences, biotechnology, biochemistry, and bioinformatics Individuals interested in computational biology, enzyme design, and industrial biotechnology Registration Information Those wishing to attend are encouraged to register through the following link: Registration Form Registration Deadline: Friday, August 22, 2025 This seminar represents an excellent opportunity to engage with cutting-edge scientific developments and gain insights into the future of computational protein engineering. The Faculty of Pharmacy at Future University in Egypt looks forward to your participation in this distinguished event.
